Shiny Object Saturday - 1/28/2023
Welcome back to Shiny Object Saturday.
I dig through the mud of the internet and find shiny objects, so you don’t have to get your hands dirty.
Here are my favorite diamonds of the week:
0.5. Cherishing the Last Time
I wrote a short essay last week on a topic I’ve been putting a lot of thought into.
The Last Time Principle.
”Live each day as though it were your last, without turmoil, without listlessness and without pretense.” – Marcus Aurelius
Remember that anytime you do anything, good or bad, it could be your last time.
1. Jerry Seinfeld’s Principles For Success

One of the greatest writers of all time had a system. That surprises no one. I love seeing research about Jerry Seinfeld’s writing process.
2. Saying no

I’ve been learning more about deep work and focus, so this one hooked me.
Most of your early years are about saying “yes” to everything. Most of your older years are about saying “no” to anything you don’t want to do.
Both are lottery tickets. Just for different games in different parts of your time.
3. Sound of My Car Trying to Cold Start
😆🤣
4. Dickie Bush on the Danny Miranda Podcast
Dickie had a great chat with Danny Miranda. The title says Dickie’s life changed with digital writing.
I told Dickie that he changed my life with teaching me digital writing.
5. Make yourself uncomfortable
Making yourself uncomfortable is the only way to learn.
Read the books.
Read the articles.
But at some point put them down and do the work.
I just finished up a great book called Vagabonding: An Uncommon Guide to the Art of Long-Term World Travel. I don’t have any intentions of long-term traveling, but the book still hit home for me doing any kind of traveling.
I’ll have the book notes up soon.
Have a productive week and we’ll talk next Saturday.
